The King's School Canterbury - UK Summer School

The King's School Canterbury, located in the centre of Canterbury, one of England's most beautiful cities, with roots dating back to 597, is also notable for being one of England's most established and prestigious boarding schools. The school, located near Canterbury Cathedral, opens its doors to international students during the summer months, in addition to the high school education it provides year-round.

The school campus in the dazzling city of Canterbury, which includes both St Augustine Monastery and Canterbury Cathedral, UNESCO World Heritage sites, features modern classrooms, dormitories, music and performance rooms, indoor swimming pool, outdoor sports fields, tennis court and indoor sports hall. The school is 70 minutes by car from Gatwick Airport and 90 minutes from London.

The King's School Canterbury has prepared this summer school programme, which it organises itself, for students aged 08-17.

Education

English Language Skills (08-17 years)

In the 2-week programme, 24.5 hours of English education plus 14 hours of education in an academic subject to be selected are provided. Students can choose one of the programmes: Art & Design, International Relations, Business & Entrepreneurship, IELTS Preparation and Exam, Sports, Music, Pre-University Foundation and Foundation in STEM. The programme adopts education based on 3 foundations focused on knowledge, skills and values. While students learn new information such as politics, history, sustainability, they also have the opportunity to develop their practices through task-oriented learning methods such as research and essay writing. In addition, debates, presentations etc. both help students see their own perspective and how they interact with the world, and support them in gaining self-confidence in speaking.

Global Studies (08-17 years)

In the 2-week programme, 24.5 hours of Global Studies lessons plus 14 hours of education in an academic subject to be selected are provided. English is not taught as a lesson in the Global Studies programme. Students receive knowledge, skills and values-based education on topics such as globalisation, international finance, politics, the environment, and justice. Students can choose one of the programmes: Art & Design, International Relations, Business & Entrepreneurship, IELTS Preparation and Exam, Sports, Music, Pre-University Foundation and Foundation in STEM. Minimum B2 level English is required to participate.

Global Youth Orchestra (12-17 years)

The intensive programme, which provides 24.5 hours of education for 2 weeks, offers students the experience of developing music skills, experiencing British music tradition and performing on stage at a world-renowned institution. The programme includes daily orchestra rehearsals and group work with professional musicians. Students give a magnificent concert at Shirley Hall at the end of the programme and this concert is broadcast live on an online platform.

Accommodation

On-campus residence, shared rooms for 2-6 people, shared bathroom

Meals

Three meals per day are provided.

Activities

Activities such as Bowling, Theatre and Cinema, Golf, Laser Team Game, karaoke, pool parties, disco, music festivals are offered for times outside of classes.

Trips

A total of 5 trips (full day & half day) are offered in the 2-week programme. Sample Trip Programme: Dover Castle, Buckingham Palace, The London Eye, The Tower of London, Legoland Windsor Castle, Warner Bross Studio

Schools provide the trip programme as an example and reserve the right to change trip destinations due to weather conditions, availability or other external factors. There is no participation in trip programmes on school arrival and departure days.

Airport Transfers

Students are met and sent off free of charge from London Gatwick or Heathrow airports. Arrivals are on Sundays, departures are on Saturdays.

Airport transfer hours and days are fixed. Extra fees are charged outside these hours and days. You can get detailed information from your consultant regarding transfers.

Health Insurance

Health insurance is provided free of charge by the school.
